Memory Studies

“Memory Studies”

Memory studies are complicated, because there are many varieties of things that we should remember, such as names, places, and news etc. Researchers divided memories into two constructs generally. While one is declarative memory, another is procedure memory. Declarative memory is the memory about what we can describe in words, such as names and sentences. On the contrary, procedure memory is the memory about how we can do or are doing, such as driving, cooking, and writing. Another classification is episodic memory and general memory. While episodic memory is generally about personal experiences, general memory is about the things which don't include personal experiences such as news and historical events. Especially, the enhancement of autobiographical memory is drawing much attention from many scientists. In addition, people remember the negative events than positive ones more easily. We name this phenomenon as negative memory bias. I guess that some can raise the tragic events such as assassinations of celebrities, and the accident of vehicles, unconsciously affected by the negative memory bias.
