“American History: A Very Short Introduction”
Recently, I borrowed some books related
with American culture. One is 'American History: A Very Short Introduction' by
Paul S. Boyer. The book briefly describes the whole American history in only
200 pages. I had learned the fragments of American history in a class of world
history when I had been a student. Reading the whole story, I can understand
better, what this country is. American people mainly consist of immigrants,
from Europe, Latin America, and Asia. The history is quite different from the
one of Japan, a small island where the government had closed the country more
that 200 years. I sometimes think that Japanese have closed their minds, even
now. It may be due to its history, geography, and unique language. On the
contrary, America is open to the world. We can easily find the gap between
American ideals and reality. But I wish that the present status of America is
on the way to the ideal one.
